Great Lakes Lake Sturgeon Coordination Meeting
Midwest Region, September 1, 2008
Print Friendly Version
Since 2002, the USFWS Great Lakes Basin Lake Sturgeon Committee has organized biannual coordination meetings to bring together biologists, researchers, managers and the interested public for purposes of sharing information useful to furthering the rehabilitation and restoration of lake sturgeon throughout the Great Lakes.  Attendance at each of the previous meetings has included more than 100 people representing 32 different entities including nine Great Lake states and provincial natural resource agencies, eight Tribal/First Nation natural resource agencies, four U.S. and Canadian federal agencies, eight Universities, three Consulting/Private organizations, and various NGOs.  Attendees contribute and participate in oral and poster presentations, panel and breakout group discussions, and evening social events to addressed immerging issues and focus themes for each meeting.  These meetings have been organized by biologists from the Service's Green Bay, Ashland, Alpena and Lower Lakes NFWCO’s with assistance from state, provincial, and tribal resource agencies.  Funding assistance has been provided by the Great Lakes Fishery Trust (GLFT).  At the request of the GLFT, the Service has agreed to continue to plan and conduct these meetings through 2010, with the next meeting scheduled for this coming December, 2008.  Announcements for the upcoming meeting have been widely distributed to over 600 people across the Great Lakes. Meeting information and registration materials are also available on the Great Lakes Lake Sturgeon web page at: http://www.fws.gov/midwest/sturgeon/.  Contact: Rob Elliott, USFWS, Green Bay NFWCO, robert_elliott@fws.gov
