On August 11-12, 2008, staff from the NMESFO and the Regional Office, Division of Threatened and Endangered Species, held public meetings in Artesia and Roswell, New Mexico, to explain the Candidate Conservation Agreement and Candidate Conservation Agreement with Assurances for the lesser prairie-chicken and the sand dune lizard to members of the oil and gas industry and local cattle ranchers.  In addition to USFWS, other agencies and organizations represented included:  Bureau of Land Management, New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, Center of Excellence for Hazardous Materials Management, The Nature Conservancy.  The USFWS and BLM explained what these agreements provide and how industry and landowners can participate.
