State of New Mexico Task Force Presentation on the Endangered Species Act and Migratory Bird Treaty Act
Southwest Region, July 7, 2008
Print Friendly Version

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) and New Mexico Environment Department are conducting joint Task Force meetings at various locations in New Mexico in 2008.  A senior biologist from NMESFO was invited to speak at the June 18, 2008, District 2 State Task Force meeting in Roswell, NM, and present an overview of the Endangered Species Act (ESA).  Additional topics for this presentation included how to conduct section 7 consultations when an emergency occurs and an overview of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA).   NMDOT District 2 encompasses eight large counties in southeastern New Mexico.  These Task Force meetings are primarily for engineers and maintenance staff who have responsibilities for compliance with numerous regulations, including the ESA and MBTA.  This presentation provided an introduction to the background and framework for compliance measures under these Acts.
