Summer Campers from “Hayowenta” Tour Jordan River NFH
Midwest Region, July 9, 2008
Print Friendly Version

Camp Hayowenta, a youth camp located on the beautiful shores of Torch Lake, is home to many environmentally conscious camp counselors and program directors.  The past few summers, leadership at the camp has scheduled visits to the hatchery.  The campers learn about hatchery operations, Great Lakes fisheries, native species rehabilitation and aquatic invasive species.  This year they came to the hatchery the second week of July.  Volunteer outreach interpreter, Nancy Proper led the group through the hatchery fielding questions and providing educational activities. Nancy had her hands full with two bus loads of about fifty campers.  The camp was very appreciative and plan on returning to the hatchery next summer.
