East Lansing Field Office Reviews Detroit River International Crossing Study Draft EIS
Midwest Region, March 25, 2008
Print Friendly Version
Since 2004, the East Lansing Field Office has been a cooperating agency with the Federal Highway Administration in the development of an Environmental Impact Statement for the Proposed New Border Crossing Study in the vicinity of Detroit, Michigan.  In early 2008, the FHWA published the draft EIS, which ELFO reviewed and provided comments.

During the last four years, ELFO has worked with the FHWA to identify fish and wildlife concerns within the study area.  For example, the FHWA conducted a survey for the northern riffleshell, a federally listed endangered mussel, in 2006.  ELFO is currently working with FHWA to address concerns about migratory birds in relation to the potential construction of a new bridge.  A final EIS and Record of Decision are expected in FY2009.
