The Friends of Sunkhaze Meadows National Wildlife Refuge have been very active this year, trying to fill the void left when this refuge was destaffed in January.  Friends President Jan Beckett reported that the group hosted 14 interpretive programs on-site, attended by almost 200 people, including hikes, snowshoe hikes, bird and flower walks, and canoe trips.  They reached another 92 people at 4 off-site programs.  As important as promoting the Refuge, they also completed 5 workdays, clearing trails, picking up trash,  controlling invasive plants, and repairing an access site.  Special thanks go to Jan for her unbridled enthusiasm and to Tom Comish, retired former Refuge Manager, for his continuing volunteer work inspecting various areas and reporting issues to us regularly.
