Roland Richards, 93, of Rockport, Maine, recently donated his 21 acre homestead to the Friends of Maine Seabird Islands, along with a generous cash donation and bequest to help pay for future property taxes.  His donation was made to honor the wishes of his late wife, Leatrice Carleen Richards, who loved the property and did not wish to see it subdivided.  The property has views out over the ocean and islands.  The Friends hope that someday the property will host visitors who come to enjoy the view and learn more about the Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge, whose office is nearby in a leased building.  In the near future, the Friends will be placing a marker and plaque to recognize and honor the Richards for their generous gift.
