Tetlin Refuge is proud to announce the completion of a photo blind at the refuge’s Lakeview Campground.  The photo blind project was funded by the North American Nature Photography Association(NANPA). The agreement stipulated that work needed to be done by volunteers which was completed over two seasons by two individual volunteer couples.  Synthetic wood was used for the frame and flooring and plywood for the shell. The blind is located in a secluded area that offers visitors an opportunity to photograph waterfowl, moose and other wildlife in the wetlands setting.  There is a simple foot trail from a campground kiosk leading to the blind. The refuge will monitor its use and do what it can to help ensure a quality experience for viewing and photographing wildlife.

Here’s a sample of some of the complements we received on the photo blind from our visitors this season. During one routine visit to the campground, our staff met a couple staying there and the husband was a professional photographer for National Geographic. In talking with the wife, she said the husband immediately sought out the blind upon arriving and was planning on being there again the next morning at 5 a.m. – they were thrilled with the photo blind! Several weeks ago, another delighted visitor has this to say “I wish every national wildlife refuge had one!”
