The Trans-Pecos Sub-Office of the Austin Ecological Services Field Office hosted and facilitated the first meeting of the Trans-Pecos working group of the Texas Native Plant Conservation Alliance in Alpine, Texas on August 7, 2008.  The purpose of the meeting was to bring together partners and potential partners from local, state, and Federal agencies, organizations, and landowners who are working in the realm of native plant conservation in the Trans-Pecos area of Texas.  Twenty-two people attended the meeting and discussed recent, on-going, and potential research and conservation of native plants and how the working group could serve to improve communication, collaboration, and outreach related to these activities.  Of particular interest to attendees was how to work better together to eliminate redundancy and leverage funds and how to reach out to private landowners.  Several action items and sub-groups were identified at the meeting and attendees were very excited about the potential of the working group to further conservation of native plants in Trans-Pecos Texas.
