Arlington Field Office Completes Survey of Endangered Golden-cheeked Warblers at Lake Whitney, Texas
Southwest Region, August 29, 2008
Print Friendly Version

The Arlington, Texas Field Office recently completed a report entitled Surveys of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Lands at Whitney Lake for the Endangered Golden-cheeked Warbler (GCWA) – 2008.  This Corps-funded project involved the development and implementation of surveys of Corps lands at Whitney Lake, Texas for the GCWA during the 2008 breeding season.  Service staff recorded 61 GCWA detections within four study areas, identified additional habitat areas likely to support GCWAs, and pledged assistance in implementing numerous recommendations offered to benefit this species on Corps lands.  We believe this project was mutually beneficial to the pursuit of each agency’s goals and commend the Corps for its contribution to recovery efforts for federally listed species.  At the request of the Corps, we are currently involved in the planning stages of an effort to survey additional Whitney Lake Corps lands for the GCWA as well as the black-capped vireo during the 2009 breeding season.
