Connecting People with Nature: Patuxent Research Refuge Presents Programs at Local Libraries
Northeast Region, July 8, 2008
Print Friendly Version

Patuxent Research Refuge was invited to present nature programs at the Howard County Central Library for their 'Get Buggy about Reading" summer theme. Staff presented two programs, one on June 10th for three to four year olds and one on July 8th for five to seven year olds. To follow with the library's theme of bugs, both programs were about butterflies - the amazing insects that go through many changes in their lives.

A refuge volunteer will also be co-hosting an educational program about endangered species at the Howard County Central Library on Saturday, October 4th. The presentation will highlight Whooping Cranes.

Refuge staff were also invited to present a program at the Laurel Library on Wednesday, October 8th to celebrate National Wildlife Refuge Week. The presentation will be titled "Patuxent Research Refuge: the Refuge in Your Backyard." This program is designed to introduce people to the National Wildlife Refuge System and to encourage people to visit the Refuge in their community. This program will be the week before the Annual Patuxent Wildlife Festival (Saturday, October 18th), an annual refuge partnership event with the U.S. Geological Survey Patuxent Wildlife Research Center. This is a perfect opportunity to get people excited about the Refuge and our research partners.

Patuxent Research Refuge staff are excited about these opportunities to reach new audiences. We look forward to working with our new partners in the future!
