Connecting People with Nature: Kids' Fishing Day at Patuxent Research Refuge
Northeast Region, June 14, 2008
Print Friendly Version

Patuxent Research Refuge hosted Kids Fishing Day on Saturday, June 14th, 2008 at the National Wildlife Visitor Center. This annual event kicks off the fishing season at Cash Lake. Cash Lake is open to fishing from June 15 - October 12, 2008.

Over 300 happy young anglers along with their family and friends attended the event. Kids were greeted by staff and volunteers and lead through three different learning stations including: fishing ethics, fish handling and casting followed by fishing at Lake Redington and Cash Lake. Many kids caught their first fish here at Patuxent and are looking forward to coming back.

Once again, the Refuge provided all fishing equipment and bait. Many staff and volunteers joined the young anglers to spend the day identifying and handling fish and even baiting hooks with worms!
