Yet another super student from the fisheries and wildlife program at Michigan State University (MSU) has volunteered at the hatchery.  Liz Throckmorton will be a senior this fall in the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife at MSU.  Liz worked with hatchery staff during her Christmas break last December.  Liz did an excellent job during her short stay.  She even made it through our office Christmas party. Apparently, we did not scare her off.  She came back for the summer.  Liz started her summer volunteer program in mid May. Her family lives in Harbor Springs, Michigan about an hour north of the hatchery.  Liz will be exposed to all aspects of fish culture, hatchery operations and public outreach.  As with all volunteers at the hatchery, Liz will also have the opportunity to work with Alpena FWCO, Sea Lamprey Control and Michigan DNR during summer field work Fisheries Biologist, Paul Haver will be a staff mentor to Liz during her volunteer experience at the hatchery.
