Fishing Event Connect Local Girl Scouts with Nature
Southwest Region, June 18, 2008
Print Friendly Version

On June 18, 2008 the Clear Lake Ecological Services Field Office Partnered with Inks Dam NFH, Harris County, Texas Precinct One Parks Department, The Junior Anglers and Hunter of America, and the Girl Scouts of America to host a Children and Nature fishing event.

Channel catfish from Inks Dam were stocked in the community lake at Challenger Seven Memorial Park in Webster, Texas and 130 Girl Scouts, ages 7 to11, fished using tackle provided by the County Parks Department and the Junior Anglers. The young “fisherwomen” were assisted by staff  from the Clear lake ES FO, USFWS Texas Coastal Program, USFWS volunteers, the County Park Department, and the Junior Anglers.  Most of the participants were fishing for the first and fully enjoyed the experience, despite limited success.
