Right before summer solstice, and with ample numbers of summer visitors anxious to learn more about the Alaskan landscape, Kenai National Wildlife Refuge hosted their first Wild Flower Fun Day on June 20 at their headquarters near Soldotna.  The event was attended by 128 participants who learned to identify common flowers currently blooming along the nearby Keen-Eye Trail.  Participants also learned of the dangers of invasive plants, were given the opportunity to decorate a flowerpot to take with them (along with some Alaska Forget-Me-Not seeds,) and to enjoy some tasty treats made from Alaska flowers or plant products.  Finally, along with the indoor crafts and displays, visitors were invited to participate in guided walks to test their new flower identification skills.
