Girls Scouts and Conservation
Midwest Region, June 11, 2008
Print Friendly Version
On June 11, 2008, Tameka Dandridge of the East Lansing Field Office spoke to a local Girl Scout troop about endangered species and conservation activities they can undertake to protect endangered and other wildlife. The troop, which is composed of 12 – 15 third graders at Horizon Elementary School in Holt,Michigan, has already been active in creating a flower and vegetable garden at their school. Upon listening to my suggestions during our discussion, they now plan to create habitat in the garden by adding bird feeders and houses, planting a variety of native nectar plants and possibly a small pond with fish and wetland plants. It is always refreshing seeing how enthusiastic our young people are when it comes to conservation.
