Charlevoix County 4-H Scholarship Interview Panel
Midwest Region, May 21, 2008
Print Friendly Version

For the last seven years or so, Rick Westerhof, Fishery Biologist from the Green Bay National Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office and/or Clarice Beckner, from the Jordan River National Fish Hatchery participated on the Charlevoix County 4-H Scholarship Interview panel.  Unfortunately, this year Clarice wasn’t able to participate because the date was changed to accommodate one of the applicants.  So Rick met with the three other panel members on May 21, 2008 and interviewed the two applicants.

Each applicant prior to the interview submitted an application describing their Educational Achievements, 4-H Involvement, Community Involvement, Goals and Leadership.  They also wrote an essay – “How has 4-H helped me to overcome a challenge in my life”.  Both girls did a wonderful job on their applications, writing their essay and answering questions during the interview.  When all the points were tallied, there was only four points separating the girls.  After some discussion the panel decided to award both girls half of the 4-H scholarship money or $375.00.  The scholarship money will help both girls attend college in the fall.
