Jordan River NFH Gets Another Spartan Volunteer
Midwest Region, December 10, 2007
Print Friendly Version

Yet another super student from the fisheries program at Michigan State University (MSU) has provided volunteer assistance to the Jordan National Fish Hatchery (NFH).  Liz Throckmorton, a junior in the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife at MSU worked with hatchery staff during her Christmas break.  Throckmorton did an excellent job during her short stay and even made it through the Jordan NFH office Christmas party.

Throckmorton is expected to start her summer volunteer program in mid May. Her family lives in Harbor Springs, Mich. about an hour north of the hatchery.  She will be exposed to all aspects of fish culture, hatchery operations and public outreach.  As with all volunteers at the hatchery, she will also have the opportunity to work with Alpena FWCO, Sea Lamprey Control and Michigan DNR during summer field work.

Volunteer students enjoy the well rounded experience that Jordan River offers.  They also appreciate the interest taken by the hatchery staff in their future careers. Fisheries Biologist, Paul Haver will be a staff mentor to Throckmorton during her volunteer experience at the hatchery.  Go Spartans!
