To commemorate National Endangered Species Day on May 16, Sean Edwards of the Arlington, Texas Field Office offered conservation-themed presentations at Mineral Wells State Park in Palo Pinto County on May 8 and Dallas’ Stevens Park Elementary on May 14 to approximately 570 fourth, fifth, and sixth-graders in groups of 30 or less.  The presentations focused on the simple fact that humans and all living things share many of the same basic needs and that maintaining a healthy environment for all starts with organisms of less obvious importance.  Students were asked to share some of their outdoor experiences and encouraged to recognize the value of interacting with nature.  Overall, the message was intended to promote positive attitudes in young people toward our environment and to spend more time discovering it.
