Journal Entry   Back Chiricahua Leopard Frogs Released Back into Their Natural Habitat Melissa Kreutzian, R2-New Mexico Ecological Svcs505-761-4707 E-Mail: Melissa_kreutzian@fws.gov Southwest Region, April 12, 2008 Print Friendly Version On April 21, 2008 the New Mexico Ecological Services Field Office, Bureau of Land Management, and private contractors released 15 Chiricahua leopard frogs back into their natural habitat near Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. The frogs were weighed and measured and checked to make sure they were healthy prior to release.  The frogs were allowed to acclimate before turning them loose at the spring where they were first found as tadpoles in November 2007.  The tadpoles were held at a refugium established at the NMESFO during the winter.  Captive rearing through the winter while the frogs metamorphosed from tadpole to adult gave them an extra boost in survival.  A representative from the Associated Press visited the facility and wrote an article that came out in the Las Cruces Sun-News and Albuquerque Journal.  Contact Info: Martin Valdez, 505-248-6599, martin_valdez@fws.gov Send to: From: Notes: ..........................................................................................
