KENAI: Refuge Celebrates 10 Years of Notebook Series
Alaska Region, May 12, 2008
Print Friendly Version

Kenai National Wildlife Refuge recently celebrated 10 years of writing articles for the local newspaper.  For most weeks, starting in 1999, the Refuge has prepared an article for the Outdoors Section, printed each Friday in the Kenai Peninusla Clarion.  The articles form the "Refuge Notebook" Series and include stories about what the Refuge does,  recreation and volunteer opportunities, research and study results, fire management, interesting facts about  fish and wildlife or plants, and a whole host of other topics.  Nearly every staff member has contributed to one or more of the 450 articles submitted by the Refuge.  The outlet has proven invaluable in providing informal information about the Refuge to the local community from those who work on the Refuge:  biologists, managers, law enforcement officers, maintenance workers, fire fighters, environmental education specialists, and administrative staff.  To view any of the past Refuge Notebook articles, go to http://kenai.fws.gov/siteindex.htm..
