Kenai National Wildlife Refuge hosted their annual homeschool student event on April 17 at the Refuge Headquarters Environmental Education Classroom.  The focus for this year's event was learning about bears.  Participants were able to learn basic bear identification skills so that they could differentiate between black and brown bears, how to identify bear sign, safety tips for living and recreating in bear country, and basic bear biology (such as diet preferences and hibernation).  Eighty-eight K-6 students participated in the event.  All of the program elements seemed to be enjoyed, including the consumption of bear-shaped sugar cookies.  The same day the Refuge Visitor Center aired "The Biggest Bears" movie - a film about grizzly bears narrated by a 5-year old.  Approximately 60 Refuge visitors also viewed the film.
