Fire Suppression Guidelines for the Mojave Desert
Southwest Region, April 25, 2008
Print Friendly Version
Arizona Ecological Services Office cooperated with Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, and Fish and Wildlife Service (Southern Nevada Ecological Services Office) to develop a one-page document to provide guidance for suppressing wildfires in the Mojave Desert.  This accomplishment was one of the tasks planned by the Mojave Desert Initiative, composed of land management and resource management Federal and state agencies in Arizona, Nevada, and Utah.  The document was developed by an interagency group of fire management and resource specialists, then reviewed by agency fire managers and administrators from agencies in the three states as well as California.  The intent is to provide consistent direction to fire incident commanders, crew leaders, and resource advisors responding to fires throughout this broad area, which includes habitat for the Mojave desert tortoise.
