Linking Watersheds 2008: Connecting the Green Dots
Midwest Region, April 22, 2008
Print Friendly Version
Linking Watersheds Conference 2008: Connecting the Green Dots was the third Linking Watersheds conference held by Chicago Wilderness, a regional nature reserve that includes mor than 225,000 acres of protected natural areas.   The conference provided a valuable forum to connect folks working in watershed planning and implementation in the three-state region.  The conference was attended by over 170 people from across the region with varying levels of watershed experience and areas of interest.  Most of the presentations from the conference - which featured a morning plenary session following by concurrent afternoon sessions - are posted on the web at http://www.foxriverecosystem.org/conference.htm.  Comments from participants indicated that even seasoned watershed professionals learned new information and were impressed at the caliber of the speakers.   This third in the conference series was hosted by the Fox River Ecosystem Partnership at the Northern Illinois University Hoffman Estates Campus.   The Chicago ES Field Office's Jeff Mengler served as chair of the planning committee.   Taking a watershed approach is considered essential to successful wetland mitigation, addressing global climate change, and generally conserving our trust resources.
