AK PENINSULA: Naknek to Hollywood?
Alaska Region, May 15, 2008
Print Friendly Version
With the sun shining bright on a blue sky day and light winds out of the north, Refuge Ranger Orville Lind was ecstatic.  He had scheduled to shoot a video infomercial with Bristol Bay School students concerning the Service’s Connecting People with Nature initiative.  The video segment was to be used to further educate Region 7 employees about this exciting new program.

Arriving at the school, Ranger Lind found six jubilant students anxious to spend some time outdoors with him and to have their opportunity at stardom.  Orville escorted the students to a nearby beach near the Naknek River.  Spring was here………..numerous waterfowl and other species of birds were present, and the students were talking about the chance to see beluga whales.

Nine takes later, Refuge Ranger Lind announced that it was a “wrap.”  However, the young stars of Bristol Bay School wanted to continue their fun outside and make a full length nature movie.  Even though their time was up that day, Refuge Ranger Lind ensured them that this would not be their last “Let’s Go Outdoors” adventure with Refuge staff.
