Service Holds Public Meeting on the Assessment Plan for Tittabawassee River

On April 17, 2008, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, on behalf of the Department of the Interior, the State of Michigan, and the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan, held a public meeting to describe the Natural Resource Damage Assessment Plan for the Tittabawassee River System Assessment Area. Approximately 75 people attended the evening event. The Assessment Plan was developed by the Tittabawassee River Natural Resource Trustee Council, consisting of representatives of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Michigan Attorney General, and the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan. The plan assesses injuries to natural resources resulting from the releases of hazardous substances at and from The Dow Chemical Company’s plant on the Tittabawassee River in Midland County, Michigan. The Assessment Plan describes the proposed approach for determining and quantifying natural resource injuries and calculating damages associated with these injuriesThe Assessment Plan is available at http://www.fws.gov/midwest/TittabawasseeRiverNRDA/
