Lake sturgeon raised at the Genoa National Fish Hatchery will soon to be on display at the Minnesota Zoo. The four-year-old sturgeon will be part of a 3.5-acre display that will include grizzly bears, salmon, wild boars, and otters to help educate the public about wildlife conservation and the interactions of animals in an ecosystem. The partnership will support both the mission of the Service, “working with others to conserve and protect fish, wildlife, and their habitats for the enjoyment of the American people”, and Minnesota Zoo’s mission, “to connect people, animals and the natural world”, by providing excellent exposure and education to over one million visitors annually. Connecting people with nature is one of Genoa’s top priorities as well. The sturgeon will help both agencies to reach that goal, and bring joy and an appreciation for wildlife to all ages.
