State of New Mexico Task Force Presentation on the Endangered Species Act Patricia Zenone, Ph.D., R2-New Mexico Ecological Svcs
Southwest Region, April 9, 2008
Print Friendly Version

The New Mexico Department of Transportation and New Mexico Environment Department conduct joint Task Force meetings at various locations throughout New Mexico each year.  Following a project coordination meeting between the New Mexico Department of Transportation and the New Mexico Ecological Services Field Office (NMESFO), a senior biologist from NMESFO was invited to speak at the March 11, 2008, State Task Force meeting in Las Cruces, New Mexico, to present an overview of the Endangered Species Act.  Approximately 28 State employees attended the presentation and expressed a great deal of interest in this topic, which contained some new information for many of the participants.  Several State employees subsequently registered for the upcoming interagency Biological Assessment Workshops in April 2008, which are organized and led by the NMESFO.  The purpose of these workshops is to provide the instruction and tools needed to prepare biological assessments, biological evaluations, and similar biological analysis documents for submission to the Fish and Wildlife Service.  The NMESFO speaker was also invited to present similar information about the Endangered Species Act at future State Task Force meetings in other areas of New Mexico.
