The Arlington Ecological Services Field Office submitted its final Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act report on the Modified Central City Project located in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas, to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) on March 7, 2008.  The report identified and evaluated anticipated impacts of merging and implementing changes to the Corps’ authorized Central City and Riverside Oxbow Projects on fish and wildlife resources within the Trinity River floodplain and recommended conservation and mitigation measures for fish and wildlife resources.  The proposed Central City Project would be a unique endeavor on the part of the Corps and local project sponsor to create an urban waterscape combining flood control benefits with a variety of water-related recreation activities and ecosystem recreation features.

The Service determined that the Corps’ recommended plan, with the recommendations provided by the Service, would provide a sufficient amount of habitat restoration and preservation to mitigate the adverse impacts resulting from implementing the various components of the Modified Central City Project.  The Service will continue to be involved with the Central City Project as master planning continues and refinements to project plans are developed.
