On February 20, 2008, Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge conducted a public meeting at Tri-Co Federal Credit Union in Augusta, New Jersey.  This meeting was well attended by about 70 people including Congressman Scott Garrett and the Mayor of  Frankford.  During the open house there was much interaction between the public and Service Staff.  Presentations were made by both refuge manager Edward Henry and planning team leader Beth Goldstein.  A lively session of comments ensued. Janet Kennedy from the Northeast Regional Office along with Refuge managers Bill Koch from Great Swamp NWR and Steve Atzert from Forsythe NWR came to assist.  There was universal support for the refuge and strong support for the expansion plan.  Several attendees voiced their displeasure regarding the future possibility of bear hunting.
