Texas Plant Recivery Initiative Moves Forward
Southwest Region, January 18, 2008
Print Friendly Version

Austin Ecological Services (ES) Office organized the 2nd meeting of the Texas Plant Recovery Initiative, held concurrently with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Wildlife Diversity Conference, at the Houston Zoo on January 18.  About 30 people attended, representing The Service, TPWD, The Nature Conservancy, North American Butterfly Association, Mercer Arboretum, Travis County Natural Resrouces, Texas Department of Transportation, Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, Center for Plant Conservation, and private consultants.  During the meeting, the group decided that the most effective way to initiate this effort is to develop a website.  Austin ES staff also met separately with Susan Bagget, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) State Resource Conservationist, and her staff in Temple on Jananuary 14.  NRCS is very interested in participating in this effort, as it can be a valuable training tool for county extensionists.
