Grassy Island Roundtable Discussion Convened
Midwest Region, January 23, 2008
Print Friendly Version

The Service convened a Grassy Island Roundtable Discussion on January 23, 2008, at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.  Over 25 individuals representing eight agencies and organizations attended.  All agencies and organizations in attendance agreed that Grassy Island was an important issue that required inter-agency cooperation, and they recommitted to providing support for resolving Grassy Island contamination issues.

All participants agreed that a Technical Work Group should be convened within two months to review the proposed work plan for completing the investigative phase for Grassy Island, and to reach agreement on a revised work plan to “speak in one voice” regarding what is needed to complete the investigative phase and how much it will potentially cost.  The Service will facilitate that Technical Work Group and include staff from U.S. Geological Survey, Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the Detroit River Remedial Action Plan (RAP).  This Technical Work Group will then report back to the Service and all partners by April 23, 2008, with a consensus approach to completing the investigative phase, including costs.
