KENAI: Park Ranger - Pilot Recognized

Kenai National Wildlife Refuge Park Ranger - Pilot Richard Johnston, was recently presented a Department of the Interior Aviation Safety Award at the annual pilot ground school in Girdwood, Alaska.  The Award was given in recognition of Johnston's 20 years of safe flying which includes 3,878 hours in the air.  Johnston has provided invaluable service in a Cessna 185, 206, and Piper Super Cub over the years flying missions as varied as law enforcement patrols, wildlife surveys, search and rescue flights, transporting crews and supplies to backcountry destinations, and flying fire status flights during the Refuge's many wildfires.  His dedication to the Refuge and the Fish and Wildlife Service's Aviation Training and Mentoring Program also helped him to achieve the Award.
