First Ranchers enroll in Arizona Statewide Chiricahua leopard frog SHA
Southwest Region, December 11, 2007
Print Friendly Version
Arizona Game and Fish Department and the Arizona Ecological Services Office finalized the Arizona Statewide Chiricahua Leopard Frog Safe Harbor Agreement and issued the associated enhancement of survival permit in September 2006.  Over the last year and a half both agencies have been meeting with interested landowners to discuss potential conservation opportunities, recovery efforts, incentives for participation, and the details of enrolling their properties.  On December 11, 2007, Arizona Game and Fish Department and Arizona Ecological Services Office completed and approved two Certificates of Inclusion enrolling 21,815 acres under the Agreement.   Recovery activities will be initiated on these properties in the next year, including establishment of a new refuge population, construction of a new frog pond, and the reestablishment of several population sites.
