Staff, volunteers, and Friends of Laguna Atascosa NWR participated in the 14th annual Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival November 8-11 in Harlingen, Texas.  The festival is a four day event that includes field trips, seminars, workshops, lectures, children’s programs, and a trade show. The Refuge booth included a refuge display and information area as well as the Friends of Laguna Atascosa NWR bookstore. Another Refuge booth was operated in Kiskadee Korner, and educational activity area where children under the age of 12 made bird masks out of paper plates and received activity packets to take home and learn about a wildlife refuge.  Refuge activities resulted in outreach to 500-1,000 people.
