Triploid Grass Carp Inspection/Certification Program Activities by Carterville NFWCO in 2007
Midwest Region, October 1, 2007
Print Friendly Version

The Carterville National Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office participates in the Service's Triploid Grass carp Inspection/Certification Program, a service offered to natural resource agencies in the United States and other countries, to help states and others protect their natural resources.

During Fiscal Year 2007, service inspectors from Carterville NFWCO conducted 25 inspections for triploid grass carp producers in Region 3. In all, 20,694 triploid grass carp were certified for 49 shipments into four states. No inspections were failed by producers in FY 2007.

A small percentage of inspections in the past, however, have failed, supporting the need for the Service's involvement in this process to protect our aquatic resources. The inspection program provides assurance to natural resource agencies and others concerned about protecting aquatic resources that shipments of alleged triploid grass carp, do not, within the confidence limits of the inspection program, contain diploids.

Carterville NFWCO provides this inspection service to triploid grass carp producers within Region 3.
