Print Friendly Version

Rick Westerhof, Green Bay National Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office, attended the Conservation Resource Alliance (CRA) Biennial Meeting in Traverse City, Michigan, October 18.  Approximately, 75 people were at the meeting to hear about and celebrate CRA’s accomplishments the last two years.

The Green River Dam Removal, Dair Creek Dam Removal and Carp River Timber Bridge project were three of the projects highlighted at the meeting.  All projects received USFWS funding to assist with opening up habitat for fish and aquatic organisms.

Numerous proposals were received from CRA for fish passage funding in FY 08, ranging from habitat restoration to dam removal to culvert replacement.

CRA is “a private, not for profit organization dedicated to maintaining the natural beauty and ecosystems of our land while simultaneously nurturing economic vitality of northern Michigan”.  Two of their major programs are Wild-link and River Care.

They cover 13 counties in Northern Lower West Michigan.  CRA continues to be a major player in coordinating sensible stewardship of natural resources in Northern Michigan.
