Both in the fire program and as a dedicated volunteer, Linnea Harris has been an indispensable asset to the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge.  As a fire dispatcher, Mrs. Harris works closely with other dispatchers and dispatching guides via radio, assuring that all parties involved are 'in the loop' of developments at all times.  She is well known for her willingness to accept difficult assignments given very short notice, as well as her wonderful attitude in all situations.  As recognition for her talent, she was nominated by the fire center's lead dispatcher for the 2006 Excellence in Dispatch Award.  For the past five years, Mrs. Harris has assisted with several programs at the refuge, including annual Earth Day events and Rachel Carson's 100th Birthday celebration in June.  Additionally, Linnea assists her husband Bob Harris, Senior Refuge Fire Management Officer at Rachel Carson NWR, with the Rural Fire Assistance Program.
