TETLIN: Paddling Brownies!
Alaska Region, August 14, 2007
Print Friendly Version

On Aug. 13 & 14, 12 Brownies from the local Girl Scout Troop in Tok, Alaska enjoyed their 3rd annual summer camp at Moon Lake.  They worked on several outdoor/camping badges and spent lots of time on the water.  Tetlin Refuge staff joined the girls for a canoeing exploration of the lake and surrounding wetlands.  The giant “voyageur” canoe borrowed from Canoe Alaska was the perfect vessel for the young girls as it kept them all in one place, it was safe, and it was fun!  They learned to identify several duck species, investigated water "bugs," and spotted hawks and an eagle while enjoying the freedom and quiet of paddling around the lake.
