With the help of West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP), contractors removed two large hunting cabins, two rusting vehicles and loads of associated waste from the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge this week.  Working with WVDEP employee Mike Park of the REAP program (Rehabilitation Environmental Action Program), the refuge staff identified two abandoned cabins littered with years of waste including stoves, tires and construction debris and two rusted abandoned vehicles which were not only environmental problems and eye sores but safety hazards as well.  Thanks to Mike Park and the REAP program, this project was free of charge to the refuge and will only require the refuge staff to seed and mulch any disturbed areas left from the demolition.
