Friends of Kenai National Wildlife Refuge recently completed their last clean-up project for the year.  The Friends Group has adopted portions of the Sterling Highway at the Refuge boundary and had three clean-up efforts in 2007, the last resulting in 7 bags of litter collected on October 21, 2007 between Miles 62 and 64.  Additionally, the Friends Group cleaned up along the Tustumena Lake access road, at five campgrounds and trailheads, and from the nearshore areas of three popular lakes.  Approximately 80 pounds of garbage was pulled from Engineer, Bottenintnin, and Lower Ohmer Lakes.  The Friends of Kenai National Wildlife Refuge are a private non-profit organization that supports Refuge managment activities and caretaking efforts that help preserve the Refuge and welcome its many visitors.
