State Audits
Southwest Region, September 30, 2007
Print Friendly Version

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), as required by law, audits States participating in the Sport Fish and Wildlife Restoration grant programs on a 5-year audit cycle. The first round of audits in Region 2, began in Fiscal Year 1998, was completed in Fiscal Year 2003. The second round of audits was completed in Fiscal Year 2007.  In Fiscal Year 2007, Region 2’s four States, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas audits were completed.

During the audit process, Region 2 staff participates in recurring Federal-State conferences, field/site visits, and reviews; provides requested documents and comments on preliminary and final findings; and prepares the Corrective Action Plans for Washington and Office of the Inspector General (OIG) review.  The Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Program staff provides technical assistance to the Regional Director, the Deputy Regional Director, State Directors and Federal Aid Coordinators and the Audit Team with regard to enabling legislation, regulation, policy and grant, contract, and cooperative agreement documents and conditions related to Sport Fish and Wildlife Restoration grant programs.  As a result of the cooperative efforts between the State and the Service, each OIG recommendation is addressed in the Corrective Action Plan and those that are sustained by the Service are resolved and the resolutions implemented and documented.
