East Texas Sub-office assists U.S. Forest Service at Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's 16th Annual Wildlife Expo
Southwest Region, October 7, 2007
Print Friendly Version
On October 7, 2007, Jason Roesner assisted the U.S. Forest Service's National Forests and Grasslands in Texas (NFGT) personnel with their booth at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Wildlife Expo.  Approximately 42,569 visitors attended this year’s Expo of which 51% were youth. “Almost 700 youth and adults on 14 outreach buses attended Saturday, coming from the Houston area, San Antonio and Laredo (91% were minority),” according to TPWD.  Children were exposed to many different activities from fishing for catfish to rock climbing.  The event was free and offered seminars on fishing, retriever trials and countless other outdoor activities.  Students from Stephen F. Austin University (SFA) also assisted with the NFGT booth.   The SFA students did an outstanding job and provided bilingual information concerning the NFGT.  The event was a great success, and many children were exposed to hunting and the outdoors.
