The Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge will celebrate the Bison Centennial. One-hundred years ago, 15 bison were shipped by rail from the Bronx Zoo to the Wichita Mountains Forest and Game Preserve. The Refuge now has a total of 772 bison including young calves.  The celebration will be held on October 25th in conjunction with the 37th Annual Bison Auction. The number sold at the auction each year varies.  This year we have 137 animals for the auction.
