The Lure of Long Island – U.S. Fish Wildlife Director Dale Hall Visits Again.
Northeast Region, September 20, 2007
Print Friendly Version
On September 20, the Long Island National Wildlife Refuge Complex had the honor of hosting a visit from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Director Dale Hall for the second time in one year.  Hall took time out of his busy schedule during a business trip to New York City for a tour of Oyster Bay National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) and to meet with refuge partners in the area.  The day began with a visit to the Waterfront Center, a non-profit environmental education group that works to educate people about Oyster Bay and provide affordable recreational access to the bay.  Accompanied by several refuge staff including Refuge Manager Deb Long, Deputy Refuge Manager Michelle Williams, Biologist Tom Penn and Maintenance Leader Bill Starke, Hall then enjoyed a boat tour of Oyster Bay NWR.  The tour provided staff an opportunity to discuss the refuge's challenges, issues, opportunities and highlights.  The day concluded with a visit to Sagamore Hill National Historic Site, home of Theodore Roosevelt from 1885 until his death in 1919.  Refuge staff were delighted to have the opportunity to meet with the Director again to highlight their accomplishments and to utilize Dale Hall as a resource of knowledge.
