Volunteers help Moosehorn National Wildlife RefugeTrails
Northeast Region, September 20, 2007
Print Friendly Version

Nine volunteers from the American Hiking Society were lead by Stacy La Bare, Friends of Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge on five days of trial maintenance.  The group worked on over 11 miles of trails by clearing fallen trees, remarking and trimming.  They also assisted in some interpretive work.  The project was a cooperative program between the Service and the American Hiking Group.  The refuge provided food and housing and the volunteers travelled from across the United States to provide labor.  This is the refuges second year participating in the event, coordinated by the Society.  The refuge hosts over 80,000 visitors a year and a majority use the six trail systems and 50 miles of roads on the 28,000 acre refuge.
