On September 15, 2007, the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge hosted an Adopt-A-Trail work day to repair trails on the refuge.  Thanks to the hard work of two trail volunteers who performed recruiting techniques, more than 15 students from a local boarding school and 3 additional local volunteers arrived at 8:00 a.m., gloves in hand and ready to work!  The volunteers and staff spend the day re-routing 1/4 mile of trail (Sand Run Trail) that was in desperate need of attention.  This section of trail had been badly eroded and followed an old rail grade/logging road that made it extremely difficult for visitors to transverse.  The trail was re-routed through a beautiful section of forest that made for a much more pleasant experience for visitors to observe wildlife and enjoy nature!  Yet another example of how volunteers keep the Service going!
