Visitors to the Togiak National Wildlife Refuge office in Dillingham, Alaska are now greeted by life-sized sockeye salmon leading them to the front door.  The salmon were painted by noted artist Ray Troll.  Above the fish are interpretive panels which include images by internationally known landscape photographer Robert Glenn Ketchum.  Both artists have had their work displayed at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and many other prominent locations.

The one story high display tells of a wild land abounding in fish and wildlife, and of the people, who for thousands of years, have relied on area rivers to provide fish and as transportation corridors to access wildlife, berries, firewood and other vital resources.  In more recent times, the area has become the center of the world’s largest commercial salmon fishery, and an international sport fishing destination.  The display also provides maps and general information about the National Wildlife Refuge System.

Troll and Ketchum have both been praised widely for their conservation efforts, and both donated time to this project because of their passion for the rivers of southwest Alaska and the millions of wild salmon that fill them each summer.  The display will be officially dedicated as part of National Wildlife Refuge Week in early October, 2007.
