Fox River/Green Bay NRDA - 974 Acres Preserved
Midwest Region, August 10, 2007
Print Friendly Version

The Fox River/Green Bay Natural Resource Trustee Council recently approved the fee title acquisition of 974 acres, with approximately 1.5 miles of frontage, on the Wolf River in Outagamie County, Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) closed on the property, August 10, for $2.8 million using natural resource damage assessment settlement dollars from two of the six remaining potential responsible parties (PRPs).

The acreage is adjacent to lands already owned by the DNR which will provide for the protection of a large contiguous section of important bottomland wetland habitat. The property was owned by a hunting club which managed the lands for duck and deer hunting.

The riparian wetlands along the Wolf River frontage are critical walleye spawning marshes for the Wolf River system. The acquisition of this valuable habitat is an important step to achieving the restoration of natural resources injured due to the release of PCBs into the Fox River and Green Bay.
