Columbia, Missouri Ecological Services Field Office Biologist Has National Status Assessment for Rare Plant Published in Peer-reviewed Journal

Columbia, Missouri Ecological Services Field Office Biologist Dr. Paul McKenzie recently had a national status assessment on Hall’s bulrush (Schoenoplectus hallii) published in the peer-reviewed Journal of the Botanical Research Institute of Texas (formerly Sida). 

The status and distribution of the species, threats to its continued existence, and inadequacy of existing regulatory mechanisms, management recommendations, and research needs are provided in the manuscript. 

The published assessment is a revision to an unpublished Service report completed in 1998. The assessment was co-authored by Dr. S. Galen Smith of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and Dr. Marian Smith of Southern Illinois University- Edwardsville. The manuscript appeared in the Aug 10. 2007 issue.  The complete reference is:
